Student Examination Policy
Written examinations may be presented in a variety of formats to include but not limited to: paper, computer based (Examsoft, Moodle), long and short answer. The School of Health Sciences has adopted Examsoft as an online testing platform. There is an expectation that students will have a device that is compatible with Examsoft and they will receive training on using Examsoft at the beginning of Year I of the curriculum. In the event that a student has an unexpected problem with their personal computer, the SHS has a limited number of loaner laptops the student may use. The instructor may also elect to give the student paper copy of the exam to complete. Students with documented disabilities may request in writing reasonable special services and accommodations. Below are important instructions to note prior to and during all examinations:
Exam-Day Instructions
The following rules and guidelines are in place to ensure that students have efficient, fair and positive experiences during assessments and assessment review sessions.
Prior to Assessment
Reminders for examinations using Examsoft
· Download exam prior to the scheduled exam time. You will generally be able to download available exams between 24-48 hours before the exam time.
· Charge your device to 100% prior to the exam.
· Close ALL programs and internet browsers before launching Examplify in testing room. Examplify is the Examsoft application platform for taking online exams.
o Save all documents before going into secure mode.
· Recommendation: Turn off antivirus programs before starting the exam
All students must sign in, be in their seats with devices turned on, set up, and ready to start by the designated exam time. As students enter the exam room, they are to launch the exam and navigate to the starting screen and wait for instructions and password from the proctor. After entering the password, wait on orange screen until instructed to begin exam. Tardiness may result in that student not meeting professionalism standards.
They may only bring their device, charger, and writing utensil. Bags, cell phones, iPods/music players, all wrist devices, purses, food, coffee, backpacks, notes, paper or other personal belongings must stay at the front of the room. Cell phones and wrist devices are strictly prohibited. Failure to comply with these standards may result in a zero for the assessment.
During an Assessment
Scratch paper is distributed by the proctors after the indication to begin has been given. All scratch paper must be returned to the proctor table at the end of the assessment for secure disposal.
Breaks: Students are permitted to use the restroom during the assessment one at a time. Students must PAUSE Examplify session. All materials must be left at the student’s seat. Students must follow all instructions and are not permitted to access any outside resources or leave the designated break areas.
Completion of an Assessment
Students must upload their exam files to have their assessments scored. (Green Screen) If students are unsure if their file uploaded, they may go to their ExamSoft student portal and check exam history for confirmation.

While taking exams, students should adhere to the following guidelines as well as to individual faculty/course rules.
1. Students are not to communicate in any way during the examination and are to face the front of the classroom/lab at all times keeping their eyes only on the computer they are using. Individual faculty members may require that you not bring any electronic devices into an examination.
2. Unless explicitly allowed by the instructor, students must refrain from using any unauthorized materials, information, notes, study aides, or other devices during the examination. Please see the Elon Honor Code- Academic Policies section above for further details. Students who are uncertain of the acceptability of their behaviors should consult in advance with the course instructor.
3. During scheduled examination hours, students should plan ahead to minimize the need to leave the room during an examination time. Leaving the room is highly discouraged, but when necessary, students will be allowed to leave the room one at a time after receiving permission.
4. Once a student finishes an exam, the student will turn in all exam materials to the proctor and/or upload their exam to ExamSoft. After leaving the examination room, the student will not be permitted to re-enter the room until the exam is declared over
5. Questions will be answered at the discretion of the proctor during the examination period. Students are encouraged to point out typographical or other errors present in the examination to the proctor.
6. Upon completion of your examination you may exit the examination area, keeping in mind that other students may still be taking an exam.
