Injury
Injury/Illness
- General
- Should a student have an acute illness or injury (e.g., sprained ankle) that affects their ability to fully participate in the program (e.g., class, laboratory, or practical exam), it is the responsibility of the student to share concerns regarding full participation with the primary instructor immediately. Students who feel they may require accommodations should communicate with the Disabilities Resources office.
- If the illness or injury affects the student's ability to fully participate in a class, laboratory, or clinical practical exam, the impacted activity may need to be delayed. If the delayed activity is required to be completed before assigning a final course grade, the student will receive a grade of "Incomplete." Before participating in clinical education placements, an " Incomplete " grade must be converted to a course grade.
- A student who is injured or has a new diagnosis or change in medical status while in the program may be required to provide written documentation from a primary care provider indicating the student is able to return to the program (e.g., completing the medical attestation form).
- On campus/During Class
- Any injuries incurred while engaging in classroom activities should be reported to the course instructor immediately so the need for emergency care can be accessed. Two incident reports should be completed as soon as possible:
- During a Clinical Practicum
Students incurring an injury during a clinical practicum should immediately inform the Director of Clinical Education and refer to the Clinical Education Handbook for guidance and complete the online Elon Accident Report (see above)
