MED 6110 Reimagining Education

The purpose of this course is to introduce candidates to historical and contemporary theory and research on innovative approaches to education. There is an emphasis on questioning, disrupting, and eliminating practices and policies that reinforce or perpetuate inequality. Candidates will be prepared for future courses in the program that are designed to help them meet the needs of all learners.

1. Candidates in MED 611 Reimagining Education will
   LO 1. Describe historical foundations of curriculum design.
2. LO 2. Explain the differences between curriculum frameworks, standards, curriculum materials, and classroom lessons.
3. LO 3. Understand that pedagogical models (e.g. PBL, project-based learning, design-perspectives, inquiry-oriented instruction) are enactments of curriculum and thus can be used to meet standards-based curriculum
4. LO 4. Understand how theoretical foundations such as situated learning, cultural historical activity theory, and sociocultural theory, inform the design of pedagogical models
5. LO 5. Apply knowledge of curriculum and pedagogy to articulate a stance about how innovative pedagogies enable socially just teaching and meeting the needs of all learners.
