MED 7120 Global Issues in Education

This course offers candidates an opportunity to examine various PK-12 educational systems and policies around the world in the context of history, social and cultural systems, economics, politics, and geography. Comparative policy issues related to accountability, literacy, STEM, gender and sexuality, diversity, and disability and equity will be explored.

  1. Candidates in MED 712 Global Issues in Education will
    LO 1. Familiarize candidates with comparative and international education in the context of current challenges and the range of global policy alternatives.
  2. LO 2. Demonstrate evidence of comparative analysis skills of PK-12 educational systems and policy from around the world in the context of their history, social and cultural systems, economics, politics, geography, and national development.
  3. LO 3. Describe the challenges and complexities of critical issues related to access to education from around the globe, including, barriers to education across content areas as related to diversity in gender and sexuality, ability, economics and equity, as well as existing political, social and cultural constructs and systems.
  4. LO 4. Develop an understanding of the processes of policy formation, accountability systems, as well as methods of assessing education needs, proposing and implementing policy reform.
  5. LO 5. Read, interpret and draw policy implications from research on school structure and purpose, curriculum, accountability plans, teacher quality, leadership and systemic educational reform.
  6. LO 6. Demonstrate evidence of skills in the use of large data sets for analysis, evaluation, comparisons, and developing recommendations based on patterns, trends and outcomes.
  7. LO 7. Develop students’ written, oral and research skills for the profession
