Inclement Weather Policy

The university remains open during times of snow and ice storms or other types of inclement weather in order to serve resident students as well as commuters who live close to campus. If weather conditions become so severe as to render it hazardous for students to drive to campus, those students who choose not to travel on that day will, in no sense, be penalized for failure to do so.

The most accurate and up-to-date information about the status of classes and campus services can be found on the Today at Elon website (https://www.elon.edu/u/news/). Students are encouraged to check the site frequently for updates, schedule changes and closures. Students may also access important bulletins by calling the Elon severe weather hotline at (336) 278-SNOW (7669).

In addition, students may receive important severe weather-related messages via the E-Alert cell phone text messaging system. To ensure you are registered to receive text alerts, please add your cell phone number to your OnTrack account. Students, faculty and staff are also encouraged to sign up for the RAVE Guardian Safety app. The RAVE Guardian Safety app is another resource to provide important safety notifications, including inclement weather.

Many local TV and radio stations also broadcast information concerning class cancellations or campus closure, but these sources are not as reliable or accurate as the Today at Elon website or E-Alerts.
