Additional Criteria:
- Students must submit a detailed proposal that explains how selected courses define a cohesive plan for English study. The proposal must be developed in consultation with the coordinator of the self-designed English concentration and an advisor in the area of focus. The proposal must be reviewed and approved by a subcommittee of the English Curriculum Committee (which includes members from all concentrations and PWR) and by the coordinator of the self-designed English major. Once proposals are approved by the subcommittee, they will be brought to the whole department for review;
- At least 16 sh must be at the 3000-level or above (4 sh of 3000-level or above coursework may be outside of ENG and PWR, with approval of the chair and a subcommittee of the English Curriculum Committee);
- A capstone seminar is required: either an ENG or PWR senior seminar or an approved alternative capstone experience, whichever best suits the course of study;
- Program of study must include at least one ELR unit related to the student’s concentration focus;
- A portfolio of representative work in the concentration must be submitted for external senior assessment;
- The self-designed concentration must be officially approved before a student has completed 80 sh.
