    1) Explain the functions and sources of macronutrients, micronutrients, water, and
    phytonutrients.
    2) Identify the parts of the digestive system and their contributions for the digestion
    and absorption of nutrients.
    3) Describe the conversion of food to energy and storage in the body.
    4) Explain connections between food consumed and potential health outcomes.
    5) Explain and apply the components of a healthy diet.
    6) Describe the effects of nutritional excesses and deficiencies on the body and
    health.
    7) Analyze the adequacy of a diet and propose changes based on recommendations.
    8) Critique sources of nutrition information.
    9) Describe contemporary nutrition issues, such as the efficacy of popular diets, food
    safety, and food production and sustainability.
