Artificial Intelligence
Becoming a PA requires consistently training one’s critical reasoning skills to problem-solve effectively. We are seeing more integration of AI into medical settings. These are times of significant transition; how to utilize AI in an academic program of this rigor is a work in progress. Great minds differ, as will instructors within the PA program. You will do best to follow the specific guidance of the course director for each course. You may find that the instructions vary by assignment, so always be sure to check. AI-generated text or images should not be used as the source of content for any assignment in the PA Program unless clearly specified.
You may find that AI resources are well-poised to help you create study tools (flash cards, practice exam questions) and we encourage you to explore these options. When utilizing AI, we ask that you use CoPilot, which is free and available through Elon. This platform ensures we do due diligence with safeguarding information that is created by the program. However, believe us when we say that there is no short cut to learning how to think like a PA. Our aim is to help you grow, rather than letting technology limit your capacity. You never want to substitute using AI for using your brain when it comes to learning how to reason critically. You must do this hard work in order to build the foundations of knowledge and experience that you will need moving into the clinical year and beyond.
Together we are all learning to navigate complex interactions with AI technologies as they are becoming a crucial component of practicing medicine in the 21st century. This policy is subject to change.
