Confidentiality of Student Health Records A3.18
The program ensures that student health records remain confidential and are not accessible to, or reviewed by, program faculty or staff, except for immunization and screening documentation required for enrollment and clinical participation. All student health records are maintained by Elon University’s Student Health Services within a secure electronic medical record system that complies with HIPAA and institutional privacy policies. Program faculty and staff do not have access to student health records. The only information shared with the program is verification of compliance with required immunizations, titers, tuberculosis screening, and other clinical clearance documentation. This verification is managed through a secure compliance platform (e.g., SharePoint or third-party tracking system) accessible only to the Program Director, Program Assistant, Clinical Faculty Liaison and Director of Clinical Experience.
Release of any additional health information requires written consent from the student, consistent with university policy and federal privacy regulations. The student’s signed authorization specifies the information to be released, the purpose, and the recipient.
