ART 3010 Intermediate Drawing
Building on skills developed in Introduction to Drawing, this course deepens students’ engagement with materials, techniques, and subject matter. Students work with the figure while exploring diverse strategies such as serial imagery, landscape and large-scale drawing, gesture, narrative, and experimental approaches. Through critique, research, and sustained studio work, students refine their technical abilities, expand their conceptual thinking, and begin shaping a more personal direction in their drawing practice.

Course Outcomes
- Acquire tools for representational and abstract rendering of the figure and other subjects using a variety of techniques and media.
- Develop the formal, technical, and conceptual means to critically engage with their own work and the work of others through discussion and reflective writing.
- Use drawing as a means of expression for abstract and representational ideas, developing a personal style and vocabulary of marks, forms, and techniques. Students will explore figure, drapery, still life, landscapes, spatial and abstract ideas.
- Build visual research skills through the study of old masters and modern and contemporary works, understanding connections between historical practices, contemporary drawing, and their own creative endeavors.
