EGR 4970 Senior Engineering Design I
This is the first of a two-semester capstone course, which is a culmination of engineering knowledge, skills, and abilities that you have acquired from Elon’s engineering program. You will apply these in a professional environment to solve a real-world problem, following the engineering design process. In the first semester, you will identify the problem, define your goals, explore solutions, and develop a mockup and proposal that will solve the problem.

Course Outcomes
- Identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
- Apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
- Communicate effectively with a range of audiences
- Recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
