REL 2620 Engineering a Better World

This course examines the moral dimensions of engineering. Students will critically analyze religious and secular ethical frameworks that have shaped the human use of technology and consider questions about responsible professional practice, ethical decision-making, and the pursuit of a more just and equitable world.

1. Students will recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering contexts and learn how to make informed judgments.
2. Students will articulate the relevance of the study of religion to understanding and addressing contemporary problems.
3. Students will demonstrate the ability to think critically about the socially constructed nature of what is categorized as "religious."
4. Students will recognize and explain ways in which “religion” has cultural, political, and economic significance and/or ways in which cultural, political, and economic phenomena have religious significance.
