GBL 260 Taking Care of Business: Culture and Custom in the German Economy

Germany is a leader in global business and one of the largest economies in the world. At the same time, it has a language, culture, and economic system that are very distinct from those found in the United States. Because of these differences, business relationships with Germans can often result in misunderstandings and frustrations. These differences will be explored in a study abroad course in major economic centers of Germany and visits to businesses in these areas. The goal of this course is to help students develop an understanding of the economic, political, cultural, and social aspects of Germany and how they affect business in the leading European economy. As such, the course will also help prepare students to engage with potential business partners based in Germany or pursue professional career paths in Germany/a German company. More broadly, it will provide students with a deeper understanding of another society and give them tools for understanding other societies.
