TDT 331 Script Analysis and Interpretation

Students will read classic and contemporary dramatic texts and analyze them according to a variety of literary and dramatic viewpoints. They will work alone and in groups to produce dramaturgical ideas, design research and play concepts. The course requires participation in discussion and disciplinary writing.

  2. Students will analyze and create meaning in groups to understand the collaborative nature of theatre.
  3. Students will create written and visual texts to analyze and to create meaning.
  4. Students will analyze scripts from several different literary and dramatic viewpoints.
  5. Students will synthesize research that interprets the play in both realistic and abstractly evocative ways.
  6. Students will analyze scripts from the standpoint of a designer and technician.
  7. Students will consider social, historical and critical underpinnings of a script.
