TDT 332 Survey of Period Styles

This is a research-based look at the history of architecture, décor, costume and theatre design. Students will learn about selected period styles in a lecture setting and apply research skills to discover visual information about other periods. Visual text will be connected to historical and social culture.

  1. Students will use significant terminology to articulate historical style content.
  2. Students will explain the philosophical and historical underpinnings of visual text.
  3. Students will find a variety of sources to document period styles.
  4. Students will gain an understanding of the interrelated principals and elements that define a given period and how those elements shape culture.
  5. Students will expand their ability to discern the authentic visual elements of period style as a way of filtering future research.
