Absence from Tests and Exams

Students are expected to follow all posted schedules for turning in assignments and sitting for examinations. In the event that unavoidable circumstances necessitate a change in a student’s schedule that conflicts with the posted class or lab schedule, the student will be required to follow any alternate scheduling determined by the instructor.

The DPTE follows the general Elon University policy for rescheduling final exams. In short, “permission to make up missed exams must be secured from the department chair. This permission is ordinarily not given except on the basis of a medical statement.”

Therefore, you will not be allowed to reschedule a final exam except under extenuating circumstances. For example, medical emergencies typically fall under the extenuating circumstance category but vacations and work-related activity generally does not. If you believe you have an extenuating circumstance, then send a written request to the course instructor and the department chair outlining the change you want to make and the reason for the request. The request needs to be submitted in writing on or before the end of the second week of the corresponding module. In cases where an unexpected event occurs after the end of the second week, the request should be received within 48 hours of knowing about a potential scheduling conflict.
