Campus Police and Important Safety Numbers

Elon University / Campus Safety and Police

Emergency/Crisis: Always call 9-1-1 immediately for medical/psychological emergencies and for any behaviors that may be potentially violent, dangerous, or severely disruptive. There are phones in each room in the Francis Center. In case of any emergency, it is preferred that you use a room phone as that will assist police in locating you.

E-Alert: Elon’s Notification System

Elon University’s E-Alert notification system enables officials to send urgent news to your cell phone. Once you sign up for the service, Elon can text your cell phone and email you timely information about emergencies, class cancellations and important weather updates.

To receive these emergency messages, you must register and select the Emergency Notifications Group. Your personal information will be used solely for selected notifications and will not be released. The E-Alert service is free. Depending on your personal cell phone plan, text-messaging rates may apply.

Safeline is Elon’s confidential support hotline for members of the Elon community who may be experiencing or who have experienced identity-based bias, discrimination or harassment or sexual violence, relationship violence or stalking. A confidential responder is available 24/7 to respond to survivors of interpersonal violence including sexual violence, relationship violence and stalking.  When the dispatcher answers your call, they will ask for a number to reach you so that the confidential advocate can call you back. The advocates who respond to calls into Safeline are trained to give you confidential support and resources and support the choices you make.  Members of the campus community may also reach the Coordinator for Violence Response or Weekend Violence Responders via Campus Safety and Police at 336.278.5555.

The student is reminded that the best safety procedure is to always be aware of your surroundings on and off campus, report suspicious behavior, and do not go into a situation with which you are not comfortable (e.g. opening the door to someone you do not know or walking to your car when someone is loitering nearby).

Should an incident occur, please contact the appropriate authority. If the incident results in major illness or injury, call 911 or go to the Emergency Department at Alamance Regional Medical Center. If the incident is of a criminal nature, contact the Elon Office of Campus Safety and Police as well as the Burlington Police Department. Students must abide by all applicable state laws while traveling in an Elon University vehicle.
