MUS 3440 WORLD MUSIC

This course provides an introductory survey of music in global perspectives, exploring music both as a phenomenon of sound and a phenomenon of culture.  Text reading, critical listening, research, writing and class presentation are part of an introduction to the music of Middle East, Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America. Students gain increased awareness of the art and music of other cultures, make connections with their own art and folk traditions and search for shared meanings among diverse cultures.
