Advising for the Marketing Major
Student Emphasis Areas
Marketing Majors are required to take four Marketing electives. Majors may take four marketing electives of their interest. Students who wish to receive further study and subject depth may be interested in the following emphasis areas.
Sales Emphasis: Marketing majors who pursue an emphasis in sales must take MKT 3180, MKT 4190, MKT 4200, and MKT 4210 as their Marketing Electives. Marketing Majors cannot minor in Professional Sales. Sales emphasis students are also strongly advised to complete their internship in the area of professional sales.
Marketing Analytics and Digital Marketing Emphasis: Marketing majors who pursue an emphasis in Digital Marketing should take MKT 4250, MKT 4260, MGT 3100, and MGT 4260.
Consumer Marketing Emphasis: Marketing majors who choose to pursue an emphasis in Consumer Marketing should take MKT 4150, Choose one: MKT 4130 or MKT 4250; Choose one: MKT 4160 or MKT 4410; Choose one: MKT 4120, MKT 3180, MKT 4190.
Economics Requirements 3000 Level
Marketing majors should choose one of the following classes: ECO 3500, ECO 3200, or ECO 3300 to satisfy their economics requirement. Double majors should pick the ECON class best for their primary major.
Additional Requirements
Marketing classes applied to other Majors or Minors
MKT 3110: Students with a Marketing major and a Sport Management minor may apply MKT 3110 as a substitution for SPT 3510 in the SPT minor.
Students double majoring in two B.S.B.A. majors, a course eligible for two majors can only count towards one major. For example, MKT 4160 can count towards the MKT and IB majors. Therefore, if a student is double majoring in MKT and IB and takes MKT 4160, this course can count toward the MKT or IB major, but not both.
