COR 352 CLASSICAL MYTHOLOGY

Gods and mortals, monsters and heroes, rites and rituals: each of these groups (and others) played a part in what collectively has come to be called Classical Mythology. In this course, we will study a range of visual, textual, and material evidence in an effort to understand the belief systems of various ancient Mediterranean societies. A range of critical and theoretical perspectives will be brought to bear as we think about why these stories were composed, the nuances and implications of their similarities and differences across cultures, and their possible functions in ancient society. This course is writing intensive. Open to students in the third or fourth year of study.
