COR 431 INVESTIGATING CRIME FICTION: TAMING THE SLEUTH
This course investigates crime, law, and socio-economic status through the genre of crime fiction. Students will study the elements of basic criminal law, investigation and evidentiary analysis through reading a selection of fiction and non-fiction literary works primarily on crimes, crime scenes, and detectives. The readings will help students make sense of the many agendas that might influence the outcome of a criminal investigation including political, social-economic, and survival agendas of the suspects. The course allows students to explore crime through literary works ranging from Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot to Charles Finch's Detective Charles Lenox. This course is writing intensive. Open to students in the third or fourth year of study.
