Study abroad students may transfer one management elective to the major provided they have taken MGT 323.
For students majoring in two or more majors offered in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, BUS 3260 and one of ECO 3500, ECO 3100, or ECO 3110 may be counted in more than one major. However, all other Management and Entrepreneurship courses eligible to count in multiple majors may only count in one. For example, while MGT 3100 is either a required or elective course in the Business Analytics, Project Management, and Human Resource Management majors, it may only be counted once. This rule against double counting would not apply for students seeking a major and a minor.
In addition to accumulating knowledge and skills in the B.S.B.A. core curriculum, students completing the Human Resource Management major will gain greater understanding of:
• The effects of external factors and organizational strategy on HR practices
• Government legislation impacting HR practices
• The impact of staffing on organizational performance
• Developing effective training modules and evaluating their outcomes
• The impact of various compensation and benefits plans on employee recruitment and retention
• The importance of designing effective performance management systems to drive organizational performance
• Using HR analytics to evaluate HR practices
• Creating and delivering HR products to clients.
By accumulating these competencies, students will increase the likelihood of attaining HR-related certifications before graduation, such as the SHRM-CP. In addition, students are encouraged to join our student chapter of SHRM and participate in SHRM-sponsored case competitions. Ultimately, the Human Resource Management major prepares students for a successful career in HR or admission into top-tier graduate programs in HR (e.g., Master in Industrial and Labor Relations). Recent graduates of this track are employed throughout the United States as a recruiter, HR coordinator or HR consultant at the following companies: Boston Consulting Group, KPMG, Bank of America, Kforce, Aerotek, CenturyLink and Thomas Pink.
