Advising for the Marketing Major
Student Emphasis Areas
• Sales Emphasis - Marketing majors who choose to pursue an emphasis in sales must take MKT 418 and MKT 419 as two of their four electives. Marketing Majors cannot minor in Professional Sales. These students are also strongly advised to complete their internship in the area of professional sales.
• Supply Chain Emphasis - Marketing majors who choose to pursue an emphasis in Supply Chain Management must take MKT 430, MKT 431, and MKT 432. Marketing majors cannot minor in Supply Chain Management.
• Marketing Analytics and Digital Marketing Emphasis - Marketing majors who choose to pursue an emphasis in Digital Marketing must take MKT 425, MGT 426 and MKT 473 Special Topics - Marketing Data Analysis or another MKT Elective.
Study Abroad Requirements
• Study abroad students may transfer two marketing electives to the major provided they have taken MKT 311 prior to the study abroad trip.
Marketing classes applied to other Majors or Minors
• MKT 311: Students with a Marketing major and a Sport and Event Management minor may
apply MKT 311 as a substitution for SPT 351 in the SEM minor.
• MKT 412 may not apply to both the Marketing and Entrepreneurship double majors.
• MKT 416 may not apply to both Marketing and International Business double majors.
For students double majoring in two BSBA majors, a course that is eligible to count for two majors can only count towards one. For example, MKT 416 can count towards the MKT major and the IB major. If a student is double majoring in MKT and IB and takes MKT 416, this course can count toward the MKT or IB major, but not both. However, we do allow a student to double count a course in BSBA major and a minor. For example, a student majoring in MKT and minoring in ENT can have MKT 412 count for both the major and the minor.
