Student Housing and Other Expenses During the Clinical Year
Elon PA students are responsible for their transportation, housing, and living expenses during the clinical phase. The Department of Physician Assistant Studies program (DPAS) is not obligated to provide students with free housing while they are on rotation. Students should plan their clinical phase finances in advance to ensure adequate resources for their clinical education. In addition to expenses for tuition, fees, textbooks, and medical equipment, funds for health insurance and temporary housing should be included for any required travel to a rotation outside of the local area, as well as any childcare and pet expenses, if applicable. Reliable transportation is also essential.
Clinical rotation housing resources are provided in Exxat, filed under Resource Materials.
- The “Student Lodging Options” document offers links to helpful resources and provides references from previous students, which are updated regularly. As we go through the clinical year, please be sure to pass along your recommendations to the DPAS Clinical Education Specialist to add to this list for other students’ future use. Occasionally, lodging options may be provided in Exxat within the rotation’s associated Site notes.
- As part of your clinical training, you have the opportunity to utilize short-term student housing provided by the NC Area Health Education Centers (AHEC). Information regarding the AHEC application process and student payment protocol is provided in Exxat under “Resource Materials”. Elon University is an affiliated member of AHEC, which enables students to receive a highly subsidized per-night rate; billed to the student by the University bi-annually. If there is a rate increase, the DPAS clinical education team will let you know well in advance. AHEC is also an option outside of NC; check locations and availability at the National AHEC Directory Search by State.
