Deceleration

Deceleration is defined by the ARC-PA as “the loss of a student from the cohort, who remains matriculated in the physician assistant program.”

The Elon University PA curriculum is designed to be delivered on a full-time basis to students in a cohort. There is no formal deceleration plan or option to complete the curriculum on a part-time basis.

However, deceleration may occur because of academic failure or following a voluntary leave of absence that allows a student to remediate deficiencies or address a personal or wellness need before resuming with the next cohort. Regardless of deceleration, a student must complete the program (from the date of original matriculation) in 36 months.
