Gerald L Francis Center
The Francis Center is a 100,000-square-foot, newly remodeled building that is home to the Elon University School of Health Sciences and the DPAS.
The Francis Center will be open from 7:00 am - 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with the exception of university-observed holidays. Hours may be amended based on unforeseen events, and students will be notified as soon as possible of closures. Students enrolled in a School of Health Sciences academic program with a valid Phoenix card have 24-hour access to the building. All Elon University students with a valid Phoenix card have limited after-hours access to classrooms and general use areas of the building on evenings and weekends. After hours, students will use their Phoenix cards to enter the building. All key-coded access rooms, such as laboratories, clinical skills and small group rooms should be securely locked by closing the door upon leaving to ensure security of the facilities. Allowing unauthorized persons to enter these areas may be considered a breach of professionalism. Students are not permitted to have alcoholic beverages in the Francis Center at any time.
Shared space: The Physician AssistantDepartment officesare located on the second floor of the Francis Center with classrooms currently on the first floor.There is shared space with other health sciences students throughout the building, including the common area and break rooms on the first floor. As noted above, all Elon students will have limited after-hours access to the building. As such, students should not leave any personal items unsecured in the building at any time.
Phoenix Card Services: The Phoenix Card is the Elon University student and employee identification card. It can be used to gain access to locations on campus, including the Francis Center at times when the doors are locked. Students can add money to their card enabling them to make purchases on campus and at many local businesses. Local establishments often offer a discount to Elon students. Parking: Students must register their vehicles in the Office of Campus Safety and Police in the Oaks Commons to obtain a permit to park in the spaces designated for PA students at the Francis Center. Bus & Shuttle Transportation: The Elon bus system provides transportation for students and employees to locations on main campus, in the Town of Elon, and the City of Burlington. There is a stop for the shuttle to main campus just west of the Francis Center. For maps of bus routes and a schedule of stops, please see the Elon Express website.
PA Program office equipment: There are printer stations with copy capabilities in the Francis Center common area. University technology staff will provide support as needed and are available by phone at (336) 278-5200 or by email or chat. Elon University and the School of Health Sciences support limiting printing in accordance with campus iniatives to advance sustanability. General maintenance of Program facilities: Each student should take responsibility for disposing of trash and recycling in proper containers and restoring all spaces to their original order after use. This includes the Program classroom, study rooms, and common areas. It is also important to remove leftover food from the student refrigerators in a timely manner. Routine cleaning of the Program facilities will be performed by the university’s Environmental Services Department. The last person leaving a room should turn off the lights.
Smoking: At Elon, smoking is restricted to locations outside the building and away fromallentryways.
Faculty Office Hours: PA Program faculty and staff maintain an “open-door” office hour policy, and students are welcome to stop by. However, scheduling an appointment by email is always appreciated and ensures our availability. Virtual appointments can also be arranged.
