COR 328 THE MODERN SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES

The course will investigate various aspects of the modern summer Olympic Games. Beginning in Athens in 1896, the political, moral, ethical, economic and philosophic ideas which dominate the Olympics will be discussed. Students will be challenged to see the Olympics from many perspectives instead of just the sport/athleticism point of view. Students will also discuss significant instances pertaining to the various games, including, but not limited to, the 1936 Berlin Games, 1972 Munich Games, 1980 Moscow Games and 2008 Beijing Games. Future games may also be addressed. This course is writing intensive. Open to students in the third or fourth year of study.
