Withdrawing From Courses
Students may not withdraw from individual courses. Courses in the DPTE curriculum are taught in modules. Each module's courses are purposefully designed to complement one another and are intended to be taken simultaneously. Additionally, due to the lock-step nature of the DPTE curriculum, enrolling in subsequent courses is contingent on completing all prior courses with a grade (not including a "W" for Withdrawal). Similarly, students are not allowed to withdraw from a full-time clinical practicum course. Failure to complete the full-time clinical practicum course will result in the student needing to wait until they can be placed in a new practicum that coincides with their point in the curriculum, which will delay in their graduation by at least one year.
Instead of withdrawing from a single course, the student may submit a request to withdraw or take a leave of absence (LOA) from the program. Please note that the change in your enrollment status may impact your eligibility for need-based financial aid, veterans' benefits, or athletics compliance. If you have questions about how a change in enrollment status will affect your eligibility of financial assistance, please contact the Office of Financial Planning at finaid@elon.edu or 336-278-7640. Any tuition reimbursement will be in accordance with the institution's refund policy.
If the student is in good professional and academic standing at the time of the program withdrawal/LOA and subsequent change in enrollment status, then they must submit a letter of intent to re-enroll in the physical therapy curriculum to the DPTE Chair. If the student has not paid 100 percent of the tuition during the year in which their enrollment status changes, the balance of the tuition plus any increase of tuition and fees will be payable in the next year of attendance. All appropriate tuition and mandatory fees are due before graduation.
