COR 4030 Embodied: Being Female
What does it mean to inhabit a female body? This course begins with a look at the history of being a woman and weaves together diverse sources from the scholarship of culture, art, religion, politics, medicine, and bioethics to focus on the cultural representation of women in the modern era. We will use a feminist lens to critique works by male- and female-identified authors. Engaging with the lived experiences of transwomen and intersex folks will make our analysis richer. You don’t have to be a historian—or identify as a woman--to join us as we engage with the works of badass women from Sappho to Lizzo and learn more about the female body as symbol and as agent.
