COR 4200 Mobile Health: Track Yourself!
Has Alexa suggested you check out the online sale for those new Nikes you talked about with your friends? Did you know that the smartphone in your pocket is also tracking your physical activity? Are your parents walking more since they bought those FitBits? These are all examples of mobile health (or as the research community calls it, mHealth). This course will explore the foundations of mHealth, introducing students to the use of mHealth technology in consumer and research settings in order to develop an understanding of the current state of the field from a variety of perspectives. For example, an exercise scientist might approach this technology differently than a performance artist. This will be a hands-on, interactive class where students will critically analyze the utility of fitness-specific mHealth technologies (activity trackers such as FitBit, Apple Watch, etc.), and identify potential applications of mHealth technologies within their specific discipline(s).
