COR 3565 Adapting London: Culture, History, and Place
According to British travel writer Jan Morris, London possesses a special ability “to adapt deftly, if necessarily surreptitiously, to the changing times.” This Core Capstone will explore how people have both adapted cultural texts produced in London and transformed the city itself over time. How have authors and activists responded to sweeping historical changes in a city that has served as a global crossroads for centuries? How have artists around the world updated cultural objects from London to fit their own contexts?
Combining skills developed in the Elon Core and their own majors with tools from fields including history, literary studies, art history, and film studies, students will analyze a wide range of cultural texts, including plays, paintings, novels, film, and TV, as well as museums, monuments, and the built environment of London itself. Open to students in the third or fourth year of study. This course is writing intensive.

COR 1100 or COR 0011. Open to students in the third or fourth year of study.
