Dress Code

Dress Code - The DPTE encourages students to dress in a manner that is consistent with the values and stature of a professional doctoral program in all educational settings. In the classroom, students are expected to dress in a manner that is supportive of an effective learning environment for their peers, faculty, and staff. (In the lecture classroom, a student's torso must remain covered from the axillary line to mid-thigh.) When special guests or clients are attending a class or lab, students are required to follow the guidelines for the Dress Code at Cone Health - Alamance Regional Medical Center (see Appendix A) unless informed otherwise by the course instructor. Faculty reserve the right to remove students from the classroom or ask them to alter their appearance if they do not meet the dress code.  Students are also expected to follow these guidelines when they are representing the DPTE in any setting that requires them to interact with the general Elon community, the professional physical therapy community, or the lay community. Unless otherwise noted, attire during clinical skills labs will allow adequate exposure for inspection, palpation, and treatment of relevant body parts. Typically, this attire includes shorts and sneakers, as well as sports bras for students identifying as women. Hair must be short enough or constrained to prevent contact with lab partners or clients during clinical activities. Attire during anatomy laboratory will be: scrubs, optional lab coat, and closed-toed sneakers or shoes. No one will be permitted in the anatomy laboratory without safe footwear. Anatomy and clinical skills lab attire is to be worn in the lab and exercise areas only unless directed otherwise. Attire for labs involving clients and/or simulated patients should follow Cone Health ARMC dress code (see Appendix A) unless indicated otherwise by the course instructor. Failure to adhere to the dress code standards may be considered a violation of Standards for Professional conduct.
