Student Leadership Opportunities
Purpose: To facilitate Physical Therapy Core Values: Accountability, Altruism, Compassion, Caring, Excellence, Integrity, Professional Duty, Social Responsibility within and among all DPT classes.
Procedures: Students may volunteer for the positions, and the class will elect students for each position category as needed. Coursework takes priority over leadership positions. A student may relinquish a position at any time due to personal or academic concerns by contacting the class faculty advisors.
Positions:
1. Class Representatives: (class leader and assistant)
- Communicate concerns and information between class and faculty advisors
- Maintain current class address/ phone roster
- Welcome and assist guest lecturers and part-time faculty
- Rrepresent class at Elon Physical Therapy Student Organization (PTSO) meetings for communication between classes
2. Technology / Facility Managers (2):
- Develop classroom and lab clean-up roster; orientation to new class on lab procedures and cleaning
- Oversee clean up and equipment inventory (between classes and at ends of courses)
- Manage AV & classroom equipment
3. Event Coordinators (2):
- Coordinate major class social events and graduation gatherings; welcome new class
- Facilitate and coordinate student participation in professional activities outside class (ex. PT Month, Special Olympics)
- APTA-NC student representative (1 per program): notify class of APTA-NC district meetings, APTA student conclave, and other APTA & APTA-NC meetings & activities
- Manage class funds
4. Global Learning Opportunity (GLO) Student Representative (1):
- Represent DPT students at GLO committee meetings as requested
- Communicate student issues and concerns to committee and relay information back to students
- Facilitate and organize monthly or bimonthly student GLO meetings
- Assist with annual SHS Global Engagement and Research Forum
5. Student Leadership Awards Committee (SLAC) Members (2):
- Facilitate and organize biannual call for student leadership awards
- Committee awards funding for leadership opportunities to student applicants based on anonymous scoring
6. PT Student Ambassadors to the Dean of the School of Health Science (2):
- Communicate student outreach and in-reach opportunities to the 2 PA Student Ambassadors and the Dean of Health Sciences
- Facilitate opportunities for cross-discipline social events
7. PT Representatives to the School of Health Science Student Diversity Committee (2):
- Facilitate and organize monthly student diversity meetings and events
- Communicate student issues and concerns to committee and relay information back to students
