Honors and Awards
Merit Based Scholarships: a highly select number of incoming DPT students are awarded meritorious scholarships. These are reviewed and renewable annually based upon satisfactory performance in all aspects of the program.
Faculty of the DPTE identify recipients of the following awards at the graduation ceremony:
• Overall Outstanding Student Award: The primary criteria for this award are the student's academic and clinical performance, scholarly activities, departmental and school activities, professional service, and community involvement.
• Outstanding Clinical Performance Award: The primary criterion for this award is the student's clinical performance as determined by both written and verbal feedback from the clinical education site.
• Outstanding Research Award: The primary criterion for this award is based on scholarly activities during the three years in the DPTE.
• Outstanding Service Award: The primary criterion for this award is the student's service to the community, profession, Elon University, the Elon DPT program, and School of Health Sciences.
Awards are based upon nominations presented to the DPTE Awards Committee from a variety of sources including: , clinical instructors, Elon University faculty, staff, administrators, or students. Students may nominate individual members of their class for the Overall Outstanding Student Award, Outstanding Research Award and Outstanding Service Award.
Clinical Instructor of the Year Award: Each year, the DPTE honors an exceptional clinical instructor who selflessly gave their time and energy during the past year beyond expectations. Clinical Instructors are nominated by physical therapy students and/or faculty who write a letter of nomination.
Rising Alumnx Award: Honors alumnx who have graduated from the DPTE within the past 10 years whose achievements positively reflect the values of Elon University and the physical therapy profession. Each year honorees are selected from nominations submitted by clinical and academic faculty, staff, alumnx, and students.
Distinguished Alumnx Award: Recognizes graduates with greater than 10 years of experience whose achievements, strength of character, and citizenship serve as models to inspire and challenge physical therapists, and physical therapy students. The award is based on outstanding contributions to the profession of PT, local community, or society in general.
Anyone may nominate an Elon University alumnx for this award. All nominations are made to the DPTE Awards Committee in the Fall of each year.
