Security and Personal Safety
At the Elon University Charlotte campus, security is maintained through multiple integrated systems(A1.02e):
On-Campus Measures:
Emergency Assistance: Call 911.
Non-Emergency Security: Call (980) 517-734
Available daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
Card Access: The facility has three exterior and nine interior card-swipe access doors. Student access is programmed for 6:00 a.m.–12:00 a.m., seven days per week, while faculty and staff maintain 24/7 access. Access levels are managed locally by the Associate Director of Elon Charlotte with oversight from Campus Safety and Police, ensuring flexibility and accountability.
Video Surveillance: The Charlotte campus is equipped with 12 internal and 9 external Axis cameras, linked to the University’s Milestone Video System Manager, which oversees more than 650 cameras across campuses. While not monitored continuously, footage is archived for 30 days and may be reviewed by Elon Campus Police or shared with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police for investigative purposes.
Emergency Alerts: All students, staff, and faculty are automatically enrolled in Rave Mobile Safety, Elon’s emergency alert system. Alerts are sent by email, text, and through the Rave Guardian mobile app, which provides direct access to emergency contacts, safety timers, a call directory (including Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police), and a direct 911 link.
Campus Safety Coordination: The Rave Guardian App also provides resources for Title IX, bias response, and non-emergency police contacts. Elon Campus Police can coordinate directly with local authorities in Charlotte as needed to ensure timely response.
Off-Campus Security Measures:
As students transition into the clinical education phase, they will be advised on appropriate security and personal safety measures at each clinical facility. Responsibility for ensuring on-site security and safety rests with the clinical site, as specified in the program’s affiliation agreements.
●Students engaged in off-campus clinical experiences may use the Rave Guardian app for support, including local emergency services, crisis counseling, and reporting of personal incidents.
