Academic and Professional Progress
Students’ progress through the program is based upon successful completion of expected competencies and demonstration of expected professional behaviors and attitudes. At the completion of each module of the program, the student’s record of achievement is reviewed by the Doctor of Physical Therapy Student Review and Evaluation Committee (DPTSREC). Members of this committee include: the Director of Clinical Education, (ex officio), two core faculty members, and one outside clinician for issues of professional conduct. The DPTSREC, in consultation with the full faculty, determines whether the student has demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to be eligible for progression to the next module.
The DPTSREC functions to uphold the academic, professional conduct, and social behavior policies of the Elon University Department of Physical Therapy Education. The Committee, in consultation with the full faculty, approves students for advancement within the professional component of the curriculum and reviews the academic records of each student on a regular basis (at the close of each module). The Committee reviews petitions for special consideration and hears student appeals (for all topics except those pertaining to specific course grades). In special instances, the faculty may be convened at other-than-scheduled times to consider cases of unusual circumstances, such as probationary or dismissal cases.
