Physical Therapy Student Organization (PTSO)
The Physical Therapy Student Organization (PTSO) purpose is to streamline current leadership positions among and between the Elon University Physical Therapy Department, foster better communication and relations with various organizations such as Elon’s Physician Assistant program and the Undergraduate campus, as well as to organize and host social and professional events. The Executive Board of the PTSO should consist of a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year President, Vice President, In-reach Coordinator, and Outreach Coordinator.

Student Leadership Positions
Executive Board
President: There shall be one President for each class, who will preside at all Town-hall meetings, appoint necessary Chairs, call special meetings of the Organization when needed, and act as the chief liaison between the board and the faculty. Additional duties of the President
include, but are not limited to:
- Main point of contact for respective class.
- Leads Board in executing the mission, purpose, vision of PTSO.
- Leads Board in developing annual short term, and long-term goals.
- Welcomes/assists guest lecturers.
- Leads class meetings, voting, and conflict resolution.
- Liaison between DPT Department and DPT Class.
- Liaison and main point of contact for Undergraduate Organizations.
Vice President: There shall be one Vice President for each class, who will preside at all town-hall meetings and assist the President with meetings and voting as needed. Additional responsibilities of the Vice President include, but are not limited to:
- Maintain contact list for the class (phone and email).
- Record and share regular Meeting Minutes.
- Coordinate with class to sign and mail thank you notes for guest speakers.
- Communicate closely with President and assist the President with any responsibilities on as needed basis
Social In-reach Coordinator: There shall be one Social In-reach Coordinator for each class, who will preside at all Town-hall meetings and coordinate events within and among the School of Health Sciences. Additional responsibilities of the In-reach Coordinator include, but are not limited to:
- Organize social events, such as: Tailgating, SHS Formal, Friendsgiving, Mixers.
- Work closely with Outreach Coordinator to maximize student involvement.
- Maintain list of class birthdays to recognize individuals.
- Work closely with the Anatomy program to plan annual Donor Memorial Service (during 1st year only)
- Interprofessional Liaison to the Dean (during 1st year only)
- Meet with the Dean and PA Liaisons as needed to improve collaboration and communication within the School of Health Sciences
- Inform the Dean and PA Liaisons about social events
Social Outreach Coordinator: There shall be one Social Outreach Coordinator for each class, who will preside at all Town-hall meetings and coordinate events outside of the School of Health Sciences. Additional responsibilities of the Outreach Coordinator include, but are not limited to:
- Facilitating community outreach and volunteer opportunities within the class.
- Collaborate with Social In-reach Coordinator to maximize student involvement.
- Interprofessional Liaison to the Dean (during 1st year only)
- Meet with the Dean and PA/Nursing Liaisons as needed to improve collaboration and communication within the School of Health Sciences
- Inform the Dean and PA/Nursing Liaisons about community events
Chair & Representative Positions
Facilities Manager - There shall be one Facilities Manager for each class, who will ensure that supplies and resources are available for the class. Additional responsibilities of the Facilities Manager include, but are not limited to:
- Restock clean linens and placing soiled linens in the hall for weekly pickup.
- Notify Laboratory and Donor Coordinator and/or Department of Physical Therapy Education (DPTE) Program Assistant of work-orders.
- Delegating clean-up tasks within the building including class refrigerator.
- Assist assigned faculty with room cleanliness prior to Francis Center events.
- Checks/tests all the eye wash stations in the building.
Technology Manager - There shall be one Technology Manager for each class, who will assist with technology errors before IT is called. Additional responsibilities of the Technology Manager include, but are not limited to:
- Troubleshoot and/or report issues regarding printers, projectors, and Elon's presentation software, etc.
- Should be familiar and comfortable with campus technology
GLO Representative - There shall be one Global Learning Opportunities (GLO) Representative for each class, who will work closely with Global Learning Opportunities Contact to plan GLO-related meetings for the class. Additional responsibilities of the GLO Representative include,
but are not limited to:
- Investigate new ideas for DPT to facilitate GLO
- Find resources for students interested in GLO
Diversity Committee Representatives - There shall be two Diversity Committee Representatives for each class (effective Jan 2020), who will work closely with the Diversity Committee to foster communication regarding organization topics and events. Additional responsibilities of Diversity Committee Representative include, but are not limited to:
- Monthly discussion-based meetings on diverse topics
- Organize LGBTQIA ally training
- Communicate with PA Diversity Chair and Committee
- Organize Mental Health Resource Mini Fair
- Inform students and faculty of campus cultural events
APTA-NC Representative - There shall be one North Carolina Physical Therapy Association (NCPTA) Representative, who will share announcements and relevant NCPTA changes with the PTSO Board as needed.
- The appointment of this position shall occur during the Fall, typically Oct. or Nov. of Year One, by the presiding APTA-NC representative and is typically a one-year commitment. There is technically no term limit, as it is entirely up to the delegate in question to either pass off or continue their term but this is subject to change according to APTA-NC Bylaws.
Student Leadership Awards Committee - There shall be two Student Leadership Awards Committee (SLAC) Representatives for each class, who will share announcements and relevant SLAC changes with the PTSO Board as needed.
- Facilitate and organize bi-annual call for student leadership awards
- Award funding for leadership opportunities to student applicants based on anonymous rubric-based scoring
Journal of Student Physical Therapy Representative - There shall be one Journal of Student Physical Therapy Research (JOSPTR) Representative, who will share announcements and relevant JOSPTR changes with the PTSO Board as needed
- The appointment of this position will occur outside the scope of PTSO.
H.O.P.E. Clinic Representative - There shall be one H.O.P.E. Clinic Representative, who will share announcements and relevant Clinic changes with the PTSO Board as needed.
- The appointment of this position will occur outside the scope of PTSO.
ElonRUNS Representative - There shall be one ElonRUNS Representative, who will share announcements and relevant ElonRUNS changes with the PTSO Board as needed.
- The appointment of this position will occur outside the scope of PTSO.
