Bachelor of Science in Nursing: Four-year Undergraduate Program
The Elon University Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program is a four-year curriculum that will qualify students to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) to become a licensed, registered nurse. The four-year curriculum satisfies all Elon core requirements, including opportunities for experiential and global learning. Prerequisite requirements include 32 hours of coursework, including cell biology (4 credits), human anatomy and physiology (8 credits), microbiology (4 credits), basic statistics (4 credits), Introduction to Psychology (4 credits), lifespan development (4 credits), and nutrition (4 credits).
To maintain good standing and progression in the BSN program, students must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA in undergraduate coursework; earn a "C" or higher in all prerequisite courses; have current Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers through the American Heart Association; a complete background check, drug screen prior to the start of clinical experiences; and up to date immunizations. Students who maintain the above requirements will be eligible to begin the clinical components of the major starting in their third year and should be able to complete all degree requirements and their Core Capstone within 4 years.
All nursing courses must be completed with a minimum grade of "B-". If a student earns less than a "B-", the course must be repeated and a grade of B- or higher obtained. Students will not be able to progress with other nursing courses until the course they were unsuccessful in is repeated and passed with a B- or higher. This may cause graduation to be delayed by up to one year. Students may only repeat a nursing course once.
