GBL 210 US NEW YORK CITY AND ALAMANCE COUNTY: DOMESTIC AND GLOBAL VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN: ENGAGEMENT WITH RESPONSE AND PREVENTION

This course will explore the intersection of domestic violence against women and gender-based violence from a global perspective. Students will develop and demonstrate the ability to critically understand the prevalence and forms of violence against women in current U.S. context and some of the gender-based violence faced by women worldwide. They will explore several different theoretical and cultural perspectives while gaining an understanding of the consequences of violence from a public health perspective. Specific topics include intimate partner violence, female genital mutilation, sex trafficking and women and conflict situations.
