GBL 244 SPAIN AND MOROCCO: HISTORICAL & CONTEMPORARY ENCOUNTERS

With the life and tribulations of today's local communities as the focal point, students in this course will explore the links between Morocco and Spain on a variety of levels: the rich cultural and historic heritage from the Al Andalus era; the intersection of the “developing” and “developed” worlds; and the global impact of the increasing animosity between historically Muslim and Christian societies. In this course we will seek to make connections between Spanish and Moroccan histories and cultures, and engage in discussions on the relevant contemporary issues of diversity, inequality and co-existence, as well as religious and cultural pluralism and (in)tolerance.
