COR 3430 Love of Money: An Exploration of Financial Crimes
What is it about money or the love of money that makes people do unsavory things? Many disciplines, including psychology, sociology, law, philosophy, criminal justice, religion, and business have views about the love of money and human behavior. This course examines financial crimes committed by individuals holding some type of position of trust. We will explore the ethical implications of financial crimes and examine the effects of cultures, politics, and industry on financial crimes. We will learn about who the perpetrators of these crimes are, who the victims are, how these crimes are committed, what motivates the perpetrators, and how we, as individuals, organizations, and the broader community, can minimize the occurrence of financial crimes. Financial crimes are universal and extends beyond any single discipline. Hence, students from all disciplines can learn and succeed in this course, which is open to juniors and seniors.
