COR 3650 France Today: Multiculturalism and the French-American Experience
This course will explore the diversity of French culture and the richness and complexity of French -American relations, both current and historical, through the lenses of colonization and immigration, the interconnectedness of socio-political, economic and educational systems, and globalization. We will also examine France's paradoxical relationship to itself and study this country's shifts in national identity due to decolonization and immigration in particular during the last century. Course materials include cultural studies texts, scholarly and news articles, French/Francophone literature in translation, video news reports and podcasts, films, documentaries, and popular music. This course is writing intensive. Open to students in the third or fourth year of study.
