EDU4040 Professional Experience II
This course is designed to expose students to their professional role through supervised field experiences. The general purpose of this course is to provide students an opportunity: to experience and reflect upon diverse educational settings; to observe and uphold the theories and principles obtained in coursework; to apply pedagogical practices and embody professional dispositions that can be monitored, reflected upon, and improved; to complete rehearsal portions of the edTPA portfolio competencies. The course is designed to promote the continued development and professional growth of prospective teachers. The professional experience implies a team relationship among the student, the Clinical Educator, and the University Supervisor. Communication between all parties around educational vision is essential for preparing quality teachers for our schools.
Prerequisite
Grade of C or better in EDU 3040; student teaching application or permission from Director of Teacher Education.
Corequisite
EDU 4200 and EDU 4300, or EDU 4230 and 4260.
Course Outcomes
- Students will learn to observe, which includes being aware of how assumptions and conceptions impact observations
- Students will learn to collaborate, which has 2 sub goals: learning to co-teach with either a peer or a classroom teacher; learning to observe peers and provide productive feedback
- Students will learn to analyze and interpret tasks and student work to plan instruction
- Students will analyze learning tasks to consider effective pedagogical approaches to teaching
- Students will use student work to reflect on teaching and observations of teaching - rooting reflections in
evidence/experience - Students will learn to distinguish reflecting on practice from reflecting in action
