Academic Probation
Students who earn a grade of “U” for any course in the program ; whose cumulative grade point average falls below 3.00 at any Academic Checkpoint (the end of Spring, Summer II, and Fall II modules, the 3rd Clinical Rotation, and the end of the Program); who receive 2 course grades of C during the clinical year; or who score < 70% on 2 EOR exams will be placed on academic probation. A student placed on probation will receive a letter from the Chair of the Academic and Professional Progress Committee outlining the reason for and conditions of probation and the steps necessary to return to good academic standing. In addition, the student on probation is required to meet with his/her faculty advisor to discuss the situation and develop a strategy for improving performance. While on probation, students will not be permitted to hold an office in the student society or serve as the leader of any PA program function or activity. When the student has met the conditions to return to good academic standing, he/she may be permitted to resume leadership roles with the approval of his/her academic advisor. If the student is unable to raise his or her cumulative GPA to greater than or equal to 3.00 before the subsequent checkpoint, that student will be subject to dismissal. In the execution of the minimum GPA policy, there is no formal or written Warning alert given prior to the Probation determination.
Any student who remains on probation at the time of graduation, who has not committed any additional infractions related to the probation, will be released from probation in a meeting of the APPC held prior to graduation. The student need not be present at this meeting.
